Whether your palate preferences run toward summery sauvignon blancs or a well-aged cabernet, proper storage is an absolute must to keep your valuable vintages in top shape. Team EWC has always taken great pride in creating stunning options to display your bottles in a way that is uniquely you, including one-of-a-kind wine walls, classic cellars or bespoke cabinetry.
If you’re looking for a storage choice that encompasses a wide range of style and size selections, a wine cabinet may be the ideal solution. Here are just a few things to ponder:
Cabinet vs. Cooler – This may seem like mere semantics, but it’s important to realise the difference between a “wine cooler” or “wine fridge” and a wine cabinet. Wine fridges and ordinary refrigerator units generate intense cold and remove ambient humidity, which will affect your wine over time. However, wine cabinets are actually climate-controlled wine cellars designed to replicate the conditions found in the best underground cellars. Other distinguishing features of a true wine cabinet include:
- A humidity management system to preserve corks
- Dark interiors with soft LED lighting and/or tinted glass to protect
wine from damaging sun or other natural light
- Shelves that absorb imperceptible vibrations (wood is often preferable)
Careful Craftsmanship – Working with a trusted, quality-minded contractor is always important, but when it comes to housing wine that you’ve spent time and money curating, it becomes imperative. The idea of poorly constructed racks falling whilst laden with expensive bottles is something that no dedicated collector wants to visualise.
Cellaring and Serving – Are you looking to cellar or serve with your wine cabinet? Single-temp cabinets are ideal for cellaring at 55°F to 57°F, whereas multi-temp models are designed to serve your favourite reds and whites at proper drinking temperatures.
Celebration Space – Your options aren’t limited to a standalone cabinet. Custom cabinetry can be a beautiful and practical addition to your own specially designed bar or entertainment area, as well. In addition to bottles, your wine cabinet can also include storage space for stemware, glass holders and other beverage accessories. A cabinet can even be fashioned as a bar itself, with the countertop as a functional serving area for drinks or light hors d'oeuvres.
