Cracking the “Custom” Code: A Wine Wall That’s Truly You

Custom. Bespoke. Personalised.

When you’ve decided to invest in the wine storage scenario of your dreams, those are the words you want to hear. To know that your contractor is dedicated to designing something that is much more than just a place to keep your favourite adult beverages.

But what does “custom” really mean? Unfortunately, not always what you think it does.

Not to worry, though. Armed with the right set of expectations, you’ll be certain to get an artfully crafted space that you won’t see anywhere else.

Custom vs. Convenience

Many contractors and builders have become quite used to using the term “custom” to describe just about anything they install in your home. But oftentimes what actually happens is that they simply transplant off the shelf rack systems into the room, arrange it in a certain fashion and proclaim it to be specially made. It’s easier for them and not any less pricey for the unsuspecting client who believes they’ve just gotten a bespoke creation.

Design Is Not a Straight Line

I often tell clients, “Design is rarely a straight line.” And quite frankly, I don’t think it should be. So, I’ve worked over many years to continue to hone my ability to translate my customers’ desires into workable projects. It’s about listening, evaluating the home or property and incorporating the client’s vision so it can be built with care…not just packaging up and selling them an old idea.

Lose the Limits

I’m a fan of just about every kind construction approach…except ones that involve creative limitations. Often when our team first meets a client, we find they’ve already been told by well-meaning friends, family or other builders that there are certain prescribed ways of doing things.  For example, every proper wine cellar must have oak barrels and brick. Or their wine wall has to look like something that they saw in a magazine. The only “right” style is the one that makes you ecstatic when you see it.

The EWC Difference

We have been fortunate to continue growing each year since EWC was born in early 2020. However, we still remain – and proudly so – a low volume wine room builder. This allows us to craft each project with care and ensure that everything is tailored to each customer’s expectations.

Whether your custom vision is crystal clear or you could use a little creative brainstorming, Team EWC is at the ready. Just give us a call or shoot us a text or email at your convenience. We’d love to hear what you’re thinking!
